Bonefishing combines observation, accurate casting, patience, and teamwork with the guide. You do not need to be an expert, but a little preparation makes instructions easier to use once a fish appears.
Tell the guide your experience level
Let David know whether you fly fish, use spinning tackle, have waded before, or are completely new. Honest context helps the guide choose an appropriate approach and explain the day clearly.
Practice a useful cast
If possible, practice making controlled casts at different angles and in a light wind. Accuracy and a clean pickup often matter more than maximum distance.
Dress for the flats
Wear breathable sun-protective clothing, polarized glasses, a hat, and footwear suited to the confirmed plan. Bring water and any personal medication in a protected container.
Expect learning, not guarantees
Bonefish are wild and conditions change. Listen for short directions, stay ready, and treat sightings, casts, scenery, and new skills as part of the day.
